5 ways to impress your boss

impress your bossStarting a new job or do you want to stand out and impress your manager? Here are the top 5 ways to impress your boss and get you noticed at work.

1. Do your job well

An obvious one especially if you want a pay rise, if your job needs to be deadly accurate make sure you spend a little bit longer on your work.
Double check everything and play close attention to detail.

Your manager may not say anything to you as they expect this anyway but it’s better to hear nothing than be told to Change or fix something because you rushed your work.

Have nothing to do? Go and find some more work there is always something else that needs to be done and if you are constantly running out of work, your boss will take notice.

2. Practice and learn more

Employers love it when their employees are learning new skills that benefit them at work. It shows Passion and determination to know as much as you can to be the best. Practicing something work related when you have nothing to do is a good idea and constructive.

In all careers you can practice or learn something new at home. Web designers can read books, blogs and create their own side projects.

Hairdressers could practice by doing home hairdressing and chef’s practice anyway when cooking their own dinner :D

But if you can it’s a good idea to try something new everything day and practice makes perfect and more you know the more you can expect to be paid for doing your job

3. Be friendly and social

You won’t be getting anywhere if your manager and/work mates don’t like you. Being nice at work should be easy and common sense speak to everyone politely and don’t be anti-social and avoid the nights out with everyone at work. This is a great chance to build relationships with everyone you work with easily, especially your boss because of the relaxed atmosphere.

On these night outs may find out information that your manager plans to do such as create new jobs which is something you may be interested in applying for especially if it’s a promotion from your current job

4. Be a role model

If there is a junior in the office you can pass on your knowledge and show best practices even if you’re not technically a senior in your role. Mentoring a junior will show you know your job well and are an authority on the subject this can help you gain recognition in the office and help get that promotion.

It’s not just showing new skills to juniors that’s great its also the relationship that you will build which will lead to a strong team with a good understanding of each other and the strengths and weaknesses you both have. In the end making your job more fun and easier!

5. Ask questions and look information up

Don’t be the clueless person in the meeting who just nods like they know everything. if you don’t understand something, ask a question to help you understand. It will make your life easier especially if it’s an important meeting that will affect your job like a new project that is going to be started. You need to understand it like the back of your hand to avoid any misunderstanding and errors, your boss will respect you for it.

Same thing goes if you are stuck at work on a particular task or have no idea how to do something job specific. It’s always better to ask someone even your boss. They would prefer that to someone that just sits there and does nothing!

I hope this post has given you some ideas to help impress your boss at work. Let me know what you think in the comments and post any suggestions you have :)
